Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit 2
Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit 2
The service is organized around four core structures:
- Anesthesia: Oversees operating rooms (ORs) across the following specialties: Neurosurgery (NCH), Vascular Surgery (VAS), Urology (URO), Pediatric Urology (URO PED), Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery (ORL MF), Interventional Radiology (RAD INT), Ophthalmology (OCU), and Dental Surgery (ODON). These are distributed across four surgical blocks. Handles approximately 6,000 surgical procedures annually.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Provides high-complexity care for referred surgical cases and supervises medical specialties such as Neurology, Endocrinology, Oncology, and Pediatrics, managing approximately 500 cases annually. Offers intensive care for pediatric patients, with approximately 50 cases managed per year. Oversees 50% of the night shifts for the High Dependency Care Unit (CCH). Actively participates in the regional emergency network for the development and application of Phase 1 oncological drugs.
- Outpatient Clinic: Manages anesthesia and resuscitation services for the entire facility. Ensures the placement and maintenance of both temporary and permanent central venous catheters for adult and pediatric oncology patients. Provides sedation support for all procedures performed within the facility, with approximately 1,000 cases handled annually.
- Pain Management Therapy: Designated as a Regional HUB by the Puglia Region since 2019. Conducts daily outpatient consultations and performs three weekly surgical sessions to address chronic multidistrict pain (spinal column, peripheral nerves). Ensures comprehensive pain management for oncology patients. Conducts approximately 600 interventional procedures annually.
The four sectors described are characterized by the following specific features:
- National Reference Center for Intravenous Anesthesia: Hosts annual training programs organized by the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation, and Intensive Care (SIAARTI). Serves as the Regional Reference Center for awake craniotomy. Functions as a Specialized Center for surgical anesthesia. Designated as a Reference Center for the management of difficult airways, including procedural anesthesia for sleep endoscopy and robotic surgery in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). Advances the development and implementation of anesthesia protocols for robotic surgery.
- Neurocritical Care Unit: Recognized nationally for its expertise in analgesia-sedation and induced cerebral protection strategies. Actively engaged in multiparametric monitoring and the management of patients with sepsis. Provides Pediatric Intensive Care support, including services for general pediatric care and pediatric oncology.
- Reference Center for Pediatric Procedural Sedation.
Pain Therapy Hub Center (radiofrequency treatment of the medial branch of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal nerves; intradiscal radiofrequency; radiofrequency treatment of ganglia and dorsal roots; implantation of spinal cord stimulators; implantation of intrathecal infusion pumps for adult and pediatric patients; IPG replacement; epiduroscopy).
- SIAARTI Reference Center for the development of best clinical practices in the treatment of septic patients with vasoconstrictors.
- SIAARTI Reference Center for the development of a document on sustainability in anesthesia and intensive care.
National reference center for intravenous anesthesia, offering annual courses promoted by the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Intensive Care (SIAARTI).
Organization of conferences on difficult airway management (Puglia Airway Update Regional Academy).
SIAARTI Reference Center for the development of best clinical practices in the use of vasoconstrictors for the treatment of septic patients.
SIAARTI Reference Center for drafting a document on eco-sustainability in anesthesia and intensive care.
Active study in collaboration with Treviso Hospital on triple synergy in TIVA/TCI protocols.
