The Outpatient Radiotherapy Service, located on floor -2, is equipped with the following state-of-the-art technologies:
· A TRUE BEAM ST linear accelerator (version 2.5) by VARIAN, installed in 2017, capable of delivering photon energies ranging from 6 to 10 MV.
· An “EXACTRAC” patient positioning and imaging system by BRAINLAB.
Key Pathologies Treated:
· Breast cancer: 176 patients/year.
· Female genital cancers (endometrial, cervical, vaginal, vulvar): 124 patients/year.
· Male genital cancers (prostate): 36 patients/year.
· Gastrointestinal cancers (rectum, anus, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, biliary tract): 42 patients/year.
· Head and neck cancers (nasopharynx, oropharynx, hypopharynx, larynx, paranasal sinuses): 56 patients/year.
· Pediatric solid and hematological malignancies: Treated with or without deep sedation: 10 patients/year.
· Hematological malignancies (myelomas, lymphomas): 60 patients/year.
· Thoracic cancers (lung, thymus): 23 patients/year.
· Central nervous system tumors: 25 patients/year.
· Metastatic cancers (bone, liver, brain): 303 patients/year.
All treatments are high-precision procedures (IGRT – Image-Guided Radiotherapy) using innovative dose delivery technologies, including:
· Intensity-Modulated IGRT (IMRT, VMAT): 580 patients/year.
· Respiratory-Gated Radiotherapy: 85 patients/year. This technique minimizes radiation-induced cardiac toxicity in patients with breast cancer.
· Stereotactic Radiotherapy (intra- and extracranial): Delivers high radiation doses to small target volumes while sparing surrounding healthy tissues (47 patients/year).
· Total Body Irradiation (TBI): Used as a conditioning regimen for bone marrow transplantation.
Clinical Trials:
In collaboration with the Pediatric Oncology C.O.U., the service participates in the EURONET-PHL-C2 protocol (European Network for Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma).

Additionally, it actively cooperates with the Pediatric Oncology C.O.U. on other diagnostic and therapeutic protocols at the national and European levels, under the auspices of: AIEOP (Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology); SIOP (Italian Society of Pediatric Oncology); SIOP Europe. These protocols address the treatment of major pediatric cancers.
The facility is one of the few centers in Italy capable of performing radiotherapy treatments for pediatric patients under general anesthesia.
