The Simple Operative Unit for Video-Assisted ENT Surgery specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of otolaryngological conditions requiring optical instrumentation. The multidisciplinary team includes ENT specialists, speech therapists, and technicians who collaborate closely with neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, radiologists, and maxillofacial surgeons.
The unit addresses a wide range of nasal conditions, including chronic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps, and deviations of the nasal septum and pyramid.
Using transnasal endoscopic techniques, the team treats benign (e.g., osteomas, fungal infections, mucoceles, inverted papillomas) and malignant (e.g., carcinomas, melanomas, esthesioneuroblastomas) paranasal sinus diseases, as well as anterior cranial base disorders such as meningoceles and fibrous dysplasia.
The team also has extensive expertise in treating lacrimal duct disorders, such as chronic dacryocystitis with epiphora and dacryophlegmon, using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques via the nasal cavity, in collaboration with specialized ophthalmologists. Endoscopic approaches are also utilized for orbital pathologies, including medial wall fractures, intraorbital neoplasms, and bilateral exophthalmos.
In collaboration with neurosurgeons, transnasal video-assisted surgery is employed to treat pituitary gland and cranial base conditions, including adenomas, meningiomas, and craniopharyngiomas.
Snoring and sleep apnea are diagnosed through polysomnography, flexible fiberoptic endoscopy, and sleep endoscopy. Surgical treatments, including procedures on the palate (lateral and anterior pharyngoplasty) and the tongue base, are performed with the support of 3D transoral robotic-assisted endoscopic surgery (Da Vinci Si Robot).
For selected ear surgery cases, rigid fiber optics are used. Endoscopic ear surgery techniques, avoiding retroauricular incisions, are applied for myringoplasty, tympanoplasty, and ossiculoplasty.
