OUR MISSION

To support individuals affected by genetic disorders and their families by providing accurate diagnoses and facilitating the practical integration of this information into their life journeys, prevention strategies, and treatment plans.

LOCATION

The Complex Operative Unit of Medical Genetics is based at the "Giovanni Paolo II" Outpatient Facility, Viale Padre Pio 7, 71013 San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia).

Consultation and pre-test counseling clinics are located on the 1st or 2nd floor, as directed by nursing staff.

Please note that the Public Relations Office (URP) for retrieving reports, certificates, and documents is located on the Ground Floor.

PUBLIC HOURS

The Rare Diseases Desk (Ground Floor) is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The Front Desk (2nd Floor) is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The Laboratories (1st Floor) are open exclusively to healthcare personnel and authorized suppliers, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In 2020, the first year of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the C.O.U. Medical Genetics provided 1,048 medical genetics consultations (including initial evaluations and follow-ups), 301 of which were through the Rare Diseases Desk, and initiated 4,531 diagnostic genetic analyses.

The service is closed on Saturdays, public holidays, and the local observances of June 24 (Feast of St. John the Baptist, patron of San Giovanni Rotondo) and September 23 (Feast of St. Pio).
